July 28, 2009: Lesson Plan 2 Presentation

Well it was the last class and I presented my lesson plan 2. My lesson was about fractions and I used a birthday party to teach. The presentation was kind of hard to explain everything and I zoomed through my power point but it's all over now... Wow! Now I can have a summer....well kind of! :)

July 14, 2009

Today in class we learned about wikis and podcasts. We used a wiki to sign up for our presentation times. I had a hard time with it and none of my corrections would work but I got it figured out so it was all okay. The podcasts were neat and a creative way to show information. It was a fun class!

Web Site Evaluation

The evaluation form I used was from http://www.ncsu.edu/midlink/tutorial/WWW.eval.html. I chose this from because I think it was useful that the form broke the evaluation into sections and also evaluated the site as a whole. I think a web evaluation form helps me evaluated the entire website, instead of only pieces. The web evaluation sheet also led me to look at different aspects of the website. I think an evaluation would always be useful especially if students will be using the site.

Class Today: July 7, 2009

Today we learned how to use Google.docs and learned how to use spreadsheets. I think this is a wonderful tool and would be great to use in my future classroom. I think it is a great way to make sure all the students are doing their own work and giving them specific sites you would like them to use. I think this would help me manage my classroom and solve some the problems that would occur in the computer lab.

Class Today: July 2, 2009

Today in class we learned about Skype. I think this is a great tool and a wonderful way to help people across the world. We also did a group WebQuest project. I think these kinds of activities would need a lot of preparation but I think it would be great for students and give them an experience they would never forget. What a great way to make learning creative and fun!

Class Today: June 30, 2009

During class today we learned how to touch up pictures. I have a seen people use programs similar to Picasa but I had never done it myself. I was amazed at how easily it was to make normal pictures look almost professional. I think this is a great tool. I was also impressed and thought it was wonderful how patient Dennis Garner, the teacher was with each of the students. He really took time to show many people step by step through problems. I will definitely use this program in the future!

Our Class Today: June 25, 2009

Today in class we learned different things we can do on power point. I really liked learning how to make the stories. I think my future students could have a lot of fun reading and writing stories in this format. We also learned about WebQuests and various ways we can teach our students including, project, problem, and inquiry based learning.

Topic 3: Our Lessons & Group Presentations

I really enjoyed listening to everyone share the lessons they had prepared. Everyone is so creative! I also really liked listening to the group presentations. I enjoyed learning more about everyone and seeing the unique ways people presented their articles. Thanks everyone!

My Lesson Plan

This week we are creating lessons using technology. My lesson plan is for second grade students about subtraction. I had fun creating this lesson. I think it is so important to stay up to date and use the technology that is available. I think very often the technology that has been invented helps make the work easier. I used some ideas from the UEN website and another activity from NLVM. The links are:

Topic 2: Technology

Today’s class we learned about using technology in our teaching. We learned different things that we can utilize in our classroom. I think it is great to use the technology we have available to us. I have seen how just using simple things like the smart board and how useful it is. I think it is interesting to see how much we rely on technology. One example of this is during my practicum my teacher’s smart board over heated and we had to go back to the “old school” projector. It was funny to see all the students and even the teacher to try to re-learn how to use the old technology.

Topic 1: Today’s Students

We read an article about being digital natives or digital immigrants. I thought it was great as I read the article and related to different points the article made. I think there is also a part of me that is both a native and an immigrant, which is interesting, to think about how much technology has advanced just in my lifetime.
